BOOKS
Kings and Queens of Europe, Genealogical Chart, Anne Taute and Romilly Squire, Taute 1989: "Boleslav I of Bohemia or Cechy, Father of Boleslav II and Dubravka, Died 1034."

Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1981, Micropaedia, Vol II, P126, Boleslav I: "Some- times called `The Cruel', Died 967, prince of Bohemia from 929, who established the basis of the medieval Czech state. After instigating the murder of his elder brother, Prince Vaclav (St Wenceslas), Boleslav became ruler of Bohemia. He made Prague the effective administrative centre of his domain, promoted the spread of Christianity, and added the territories of Moravia, Slovakia, and Silesia to his domain. After being attacked by the emperor Otto I (950), he was forced to recognize the German king as his suzerain. His feudal ties remained largely formal, however, and Bohemia was able to retain its autonomy. Several years later, Boleslav cooperated with Otto in combatting the invasion of the Magyars and directed a Bohemian contingent against them at the Battle of Lechfeld (955)."

The Story of Civilization, Will Durant, Vol IV, The Age of Faith, Bk IV, The Dark Ages, Chap XXV, The Recovery of Europe, Sec V, Border States, p660: "... His brother [Boleslav I] tried to assassinate him as lacking the vices desirable in a king; Wenceslas struck himdown with his own hand, and forgave him; but other members of the conspiracy murdered the King on his way to Mass on 25 Sep 935...Warlike dukes succeeded him. From their strategic castle and capital at Prague, Boleslav I (939-967) and II (967-999), and Bratislav (1037-1055) conquered Moravia, Silesia, and Poland..."
